Social Club

We are a community-run club in Gunbalanya, governed by a committee of local residents.

The club is set in a beautiful tropical garden. We are open for two and a half hours, four days a week. Our liquor license allows us to sell mid-strength & light beers. We also sell chips, chocolates & soft drinks. Each night of trading, we provide a free barbecue for our patrons.

We have ten self contained rooms, five of which are motel rooms, and five demountable rooms.  All room have fully made up beds, cooking facilities, and ensuites. Other facilities include general use BBQ, outdoor seating and a pool located offsite.

Also known as Oenpelli, Gunbalanya is an Aboriginal community situated about 60km north east of Jabiru, across the East Alligator River in Arnhem Land. The East Alligator River is the border between Arnhem Land and Kakadu National Park.

The crossing is known as Cahill’s Crossing. It was named after a pioneer of the region, Paddy Cahill.

During the wet season the crossing is closed for many months due to high water levels. At this time the only access to Gunbalanya is flying in and out either from Darwin or Jabiru.

During the dry the crossing is normally open but please adhere to local road conditions because it is tidal.
